The initiative aims to bring the sea back to the district, particularly Al-Bunt historic port, and restore the historic district to its original state as closely as possible. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to establish Jeddah Historic District as a distinguished heritage destination, both locally and globally.
Historic Jeddah Waterfront Regeneration Initiative is part of a broad vision to develop the area surrounding Al Arbaeen Lagoon, creating a sustainable residential and commercial space through three phases. The first phase involves preparing to re-excavate the sea area filled due to urban expansion in past decades, including site Clearing and infrastructure removal. The second phase focuses on managing the pollution of Al Arbaeen Lagoon, excavating and reshaping its basin, and developing its infrastructure. Finally, in the third phase, the Jeddah Historic Waterfront Initiative aims to build a yacht marina, green spaces, pedestrian bridges, and utilities, restitching urban fabric and enhancing walkability.
